Work to install the structural steel for the Lansdowne 2.0 Event Centre began at the start of October 2026, according to the City of Ottawa’s October 2026 Lansdowne 2.0 newsletter, dated October 9 2026. The City calls the start of steel installation a milestone. The same newsletter invites the public to a community pop-up on Tuesday October 27 2026, 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, on the main floor of the Horticulture Building, 1525 Princess Patricia Way.

What was built in September
The City’s newsletter reports that crews poured the concrete base for the Event Centre concourse in September, and work began to fit the building with plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems. At the northwest corner, crews built support walls and dug a trench for the loading dock. The City says the loading dock will let trucks, ice resurfacing equipment and other vehicles reach the Event Centre from Exhibition Way.
The work planned for October
The newsletter lists the October work as:
- Structural steel installation, the main focus of the month
- Concrete pours to complete the Event Centre foundation, with mechanical, electrical and plumbing work under finished sections
- More loading dock excavation, then foundation work
- Stockpiled soil used to backfill the site as the foundation is completed
Truck route and Exhibition Way
According to the City, trucks make intermittent trips on the hauling road behind the south side stands, reaching Bank Street by Queen Elizabeth Place and Wilton Crescent, and flag persons stay on site during truck movements. The newsletter says the section of Exhibition Way closed in mid-September for utility work has since reopened.
CTV News Ottawa reported on October 15 2026 on new City of Ottawa images of the steel structure being installed.
What stays open, and what is closed
The City’s October newsletter says Lansdowne remains open for business as construction goes on, and an earlier City newsletter says events continue in TD Place Arena while the Event Centre is built. The City’s Lansdowne 2.0 project page says the Great Lawn and the sledding hill are temporarily closed to the public for the Event Centre build and reopen once the Event Centre is complete.
The schedule
The City’s project page lists the Event Centre as Phase 1, from Q4 2025 to Q3 2028, followed by the north side stands from Q4 2028 to Q4 2030 and the mixed-use development and retail from 2031. A City notice for a December 2025 information session, on the same page, gives a narrower range for the first phase, which it says includes the Event Centre and the Great Lawn: December 2025 to July 2028.
Community pop-up, Tuesday October 27
The City invites people with questions for the project team, or feedback to share, to stop in at the Horticulture Building, 1525 Princess Patricia Way, on the main floor, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on Tuesday October 27 2026. The project team can also be reached at LansdowneRenewal@ottawa.ca.
