Frank Clair Stadium will have a New Name!

Frank Clair Stadium that is rising up at Lansdowne Park will have a new name soon.

There will be a brand name attached, likely at a price tag of more than $1 million per season.

Since 1993, the stadium had been named after former Ottawa Rough Riders coach and general manager Frank Clair, who won five Grey Cups in the 1960s and ’70s.

OSEG is currently looking for a naming rights partner. It’s believed Winnipeg got in the neighbourhood of $800,000 per year for 12 years for naming rights to its stadium (Investors Group Field), while it’s rumoured that Hamilton got about $1 million per year for 10 years for its new stadium (Tim Hortons Field).

Ottawa, with both CFL REDBLACKS and NASL Ottawa Fury FC games being played at the stadium, could get more.

The Ottawa RedBlacks are scheduled to join the CFL in the 2014 season, playing out of the stadium at Lansdowne Park.

Forget Frank Clair. He only brought 3 grey cups to Ottawa. He only won 5 cups as a coach. Not good enough, eh? Sure lets forget Frank Clair for a few bucks. What a start for a new football franchise in football historic Ottawa!
