Towns on Holmwood, Lansdowne Park New Homes & Condos

0
In keeping with Lansdowne’s heritage, Barry Hobin designed townhomes on Holmwood Avenue, on the park’s north edge. Four blocks of condominium townhomes that share back walls with Lansdowne’s biggest retail buildings, including the movie theatre.
Existing residents of Holmwood will be facing other homes, not a multiplex or a grocery store. The towns are divided into four blocks, it will allow pedestrian and bike access to Lansdowne Park, it will slowly evolve into a gated community. The whole notion along Holmwood is to create pathways into the park.A big part of the allure is the price. A stacked two-bedroom townhome of about 1,000 square feet will cost in the low $400,000s. A 2,000-square-foot, three-bedroom, 3.5-storey town will sell for about $650,000. Prices like that are hard to find in the Glebe.

Minto officially launched Towns on Holmwood on Saturday at its Lansdowne sales office at nearby Fifth Avenue Court. Those who preregistered were to get a sneak peek first.

Construction is expected to start in February with occupancy in December.

Hobin, an influential Ottawa architect, was a natural choice to design the towns. He helped design the master plan for this joint venture between the City of Ottawa and the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group.

There were challenges. All of the units face in one direction and have one wall of windows. Designs had to be wide enough to accommodate the bedrooms.

There are no yards, but the stacked towns have balconies and the townhomes have raised terraces. Underground parking was designed to allow space for trees in front of the homes, just like the older residences across the street.

The townhomes will sit next to the Vibe condo tower, at the corner of Bank and Holmwood, and residents will share in some of the tower’s amenities.
