Ottawa REDBLACKS Top 3 picks from the 2014 CFL draft

After trading the first overall pick and the rights to center Marwan Hage to Calgary for all-star centre Jon Gott, the REDBLACKS traded quarterback Kevin Glenn to BC for the 5 pick overall. But the REDBLACKS weren’t done.

They made another deal with Montreal to move up to 4th where they selected Antoine Pruneau.  The 6’ 190 lb. DB/punt returner was the second-fastest prospect at this year’s CFL Combine (behind Adam Thibault), recording a 4.487.

He also finished second in the shuttle (4.05) and first in the 3-Cone drill with a 6.78.’s Justin Dunk compared Pruneau to Montreal Alouettes safety Mike Edem who was a first round pick in 2013.

The REDBLACKS selected Scott Macdonell from Montreal in the 2nd round, 13th overall. Macdonell, a 6’5” 220 lb. receiver, established himself as a top OUA wideout in 2013 setting new personal bests in receptions (30), receiving yards (441) and touchdowns (4). He then added eight receptions for 167 yards and a touchdown in two playoff games.

The REDBLACKS third round choice was defensive lineman Nigel Romick from Saint Mary’s. He led all defensive lineman at the CFL combine in the 3-cone (7.40), shuttle (4.40) and vertical drills (34 inches).

The native of Thunder Bay also ran the second fastest 40-yard time among defensive lineman (5.00) and finished second in his position with 17 reps in the bench press drill.
