The lineups started early, before doors opened Saturday May 3 at the Ottawa Convention Centre for the Job Fair for TD Place.

Students, retired workers and other job seekers were out looking for part-time work at the sports and entertainment complex scheduled to open in July when the Ottawa Redblacks and Ottawa Fury begin play at renovated Lansdowne Park. About 1,000 part-time jobs are up for grabs, including ushers, servers, bartenders, cooks, box-office staff, facility maintenance and security positions.

Even Ottawa Redblacks mascot, Big Joe/Grand Jos, came by the event.

TD Place was hiring for its football and soccer operations. Levy Restaurants was taking on people for its catering facilities. Eurest Services was looking for cleaning staff, and Securitas was on the lookout for security workers.

The applicants did not need to have a sports background, although customer service experience is helpful.

Staff would review the resumés of applicants and give them short interviews, and that most of the hiring would take place on the weekend.
